The Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Limpopo in collaboration with the University of Venda invites you to submit
abstracts for their 3rd Biennial Research Conference titled “Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3 by 2030: Facilitating and
constraining dynamics in the African context while promoting the health and well-being of all individuals”.
Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) is one of the United Nations’ agenda to achieve “good health and well-being for all
people at all ages” by 2030, with the notion that sustainable development is a fulcrum of good health. Overarchingly,
SDG 3 aims to achieve universal health coverage and promote equal and equitable access to healthcare services.
Its specific goal is to eradicate mortality and epidemics among neonates, infants, and children under the age of five.
It also considers contextual social determinants of health, climate challenges, HIV epidemics, infectious diseases, and,
more recently, the global COVID-19 epidemic. In a variety of settings, these health challenges pose a tremendous barrier
to achieving good health and well-being.
Understanding the contextual factors that constrain and shape attempts to achieve SDG 3 sustainability, especially in an
African setting with overburdened health systems, could serve as a leverage point in achieving sustainability for good health and well-being for everyone.
